Had 2 trainees visit. Came Friday afternoon in the rain, got soaked! Moto tipped over, bruises and scratches. Saturday was abana club. Discussed hygiene, gave kids biscuits after doing handwashing demonstration and making all of them wash their hands. More rain. Watched Sex and the City movie, wished for popcorn. Sunday visited resource family, drank homemade yogurt, ate rice with peanut sauce and eggplant, played with baby. Trainees left Monday morning, took them to the motos and put them on and said bye.
Tuesday morning, got on motos, got on bus into Kigali for the first national nutrition conference. Showed up at lunch and ate delicious food!! Had cocktails and tapas afterwards with the minister of health. Red wine!!! Went out with friends afterwards.
Wednesday, went to conference all day, more good food and good information. Had translators in booths and these cool ear thingys, felt like I was in the United Nations. Went out with friends afterwards again.
Thursday, went to last day of conference, left after lunch to buy things for Thanksgiving dinner. Went to Office and started making the apple pie. Was madness with 20 PCV’s in the office at once trying to make enough food to feed us all. Boxed wine was had. Turkey was eaten. Lots of mashed potatoes and stuffing. Had to be out of the office by 6, so ate quickly and stored left-overs in the fridge. Went out with friends again, fell asleep at the bar and got taken home. Everyone else went out dancing! Sad I missed it!!
Friday, went to the office and ate left-overs, played on the computer and hung out with friends. Went to a fancy bar that night and danced.
Saturday, hung out at a friends house watched a movie then drove out to lake Muhazi for dinner and drinks. Went to a house party and danced.
Sunday, got on a bus and came home.
Monday, two other trainees came for a visit. It was dry out so the moto took them all the way to the house. We baked a banana cake on the fire, using dirt (which we first had to cook to dry out cause it was mud) in a big pot. We put the small pot inside the big pot with the dirt. It was delicious! The trainees brought us cheese, so I made pizza for dinner (also on the stove).
Tuesday, we brought them to the clinic and showed them around and then walked around the village to show them the secondary school (they are going to be teachers) and then we sat down and had fantas at the restaurant. That night we baked brownies in the same fashion on the fire. We all watched a movie on my small computer that night.
Wednesday, I was feeling like crap, so I stayed home from work. The trainees left in the morning back to Nyanza. I weeded in the garden a little, the lettuce is growing!!
Thursday, I stayed home again, still not feeling well
