Rafting the Nile in Uganda

Okay, so I havent really been in the mood to write lately, so please excuse the bullet points. If you want more details I'll be glad to give them.

October 20th = 6 months at site!
Sat: after abana club, one moto, rain, car late, party in gisakura
Tues: Blisters, cant walk, kid trying to break in
Thurs: caught in rain, wait it out in salon, can’t speak kinya
All weekend cloudy and rainy, constant rain. Peas, squash growing.
Burned wrist 3 times, oil splatter on chest, steam burn on thumb
Halloween: wore black and orange and ate orange foods and candy
Thursday morning, only one moto again, my bag on front, emily’s on back, Emily and driver on seat, me on back on top of bag, flat tire, missed bus
Friday: early bus, caught just on time, had to run and flag down, missed other two coming with, got into kampala late, loooong bus ride, met peace corps volunteers from Uganda in same hotel, took us to dinner at Ethiopian.
Saturrday: bus picked us up at hotel, drove us to Jinja, others bungee jumped, then we got into the raft and went 5 hours down the river. Lost a contact thrusday night, so had to wear glasses, tied string around head. Flipped boat twice and smashed head into boat after going over a waterfall, but glasses are still intact!!! Drank beer and ate some food, went back to resort and watched rugby and video of rafting trip
Sunday: taxi into Jinja town, caught bus into Kampala back to hotel met up with PCV Uganda who took us to big market, got about 50 proposals, came home with an engagement bracelet and quite a few numbers.
Monday: mad dash to catch bus, no taxi’s to be found on road, barely make it to bus, long bus trip back to Kigali, but pretty empty bus so had a row of 3 seats to myself! So nice. Stayed at a friends house and went out.
Tuesday: bought ticket to South Africa for Christmas, went to friends work and played in the city
Wednesday: missed bus back home, had to take next one, moto driver said he was coming to get me, started walking down dirt road home, after 30 mins got call saying out of gas, need to take different moto (which I left behind in the town), found moto got ride to Mwezi, but only to market, had to walk with giant bag of stuff uphill for another half hour and the last fifteen minutes in a monsoon. Was NOT happy (or dry) when I got home.
Sunday: We now have an orphaned girl living with us. She cares for her two younger sisters, but one day while at school they were robbed, so she is working at the parish over school break to earn some money and needed a place closer to sleep (she has to walk 3 hours to get there from her house). She’ll be here until mid-January. She is studying at the secondary school and so she speaks some English, but is very eager to learn more.

Nicknames I’ve acquired:
Mukobwajana
Akanyana kanjye
Coolwhip
Guacamole
Nyamasheke
